Guys, I’m finally done with our Master Bedroom! Well, “almost” done. I still need to put up some wall art on some of the walls, and debating on whether to put a TV or not in the bedroom. But for now, our master bedroom is Spring ready and I’m excited to finally reveal it to you! Here’s a Spring Bedroom Refresh and Master Bedroom Reveal with the help of Soft Surroundings! There’s also a before and after photo if you like those things because I know I do!
Master Bedroom Reveal
When we put in an offer for this house, we knew we would have to settle with a smaller master bedroom. The previous owner had a queen bed in the master, leaving more room to play with. But ours is a king size bed that’s pretty massive. The headboard was oversized. The platform bed extended a bit, making it even bigger. AND to top it all off, we had huge nightstands! When I got our nightstands online, I had no idea it would be this big. I mean, I did take measurements. But sometimes, it’s not until you see it that you realize how big or small a piece of furniture is. While I knew it was huge, it didn’t bother me at the time because we had a pretty big bedroom back when I got these nightstands. So if you are interested in these mirrored tables, they are pretty nice and were so easy to assemble – I did it on my own in a few minutes. I got them when they were on sale. So maybe check back again to get a great deal like I did. Moving on… I made a quick video if you wanna see behind the scenes. But I’m also explaining everything below.
Left with a smaller bedroom, the wall with the only window was the only wall that can fit our bed and two nightstands. I didn’t like that idea because for one, it wasn’t good luck in Feng Shui. But even if I ignore that or try to do a work-around, the second issue was our huge headboard will cover most of the window. That leaves me with a dark room and not much natural light that I like. But it is what it is.
Given that scenario, I had to fake the center of the wall/window/bed. Because I have a vanity set on the left side (when facing the bed), I couldn’t center the bed in the room. It would be too crowded in the vanity area. And since the window was centered, it would look so off behind the headboard. So my husband took out the track curtains that were left in the room. I then installed our old curtain rods and black-out white drapes and centered it to the bed, not to the room. It looks so much better! Now, it was just a matter of dressing it up for Spring!
Spring Bedroom Refresh
Soft Surroundings has some of the softest bedding you can ever find! Seriously! I was introduced to the brand last year and now I’m hooked. If you haven’t gone into their store, you absolutely have to. If you’re in Pittsburgh, they have one at Ross Park mall! Make sure to check their bedding – throws, pillows, sheet sets, etc., and just get a feel of it. I’m telling you, you will love it! And while there, grab some loungewear too because they all are so comfy and cozy – perfect for those who love to chill at home!
Soft Surroundings sent me these sheets and bolster to freshen up our master bedroom in time for Spring. I chose light pinks because they remind me of the beautiful Cherry Blossoms that bloom this season. So let me show you what I did and I’ll be sharing some Spring refresh tips along the way too!
1. Clear Up Your Nightstands
First thing’s first, make those nightstands clutter-free. In a design-perfect world, I’d tell you to keep up to just 3 items on top of your nightstand. But I’m not gonna do that because who are we kidding? We need a lamp. We need our chargers. Maybe jewelry dishes for our rings, earrings, and a watch. And then, maybe an alarm clock and a picture frame of our family or loved ones. I even have an oil diffuser that I’ll be talking about next – it’s great for getting a good sleep. And of course, I like to keep either fresh flowers or plants too.
But that’s a lot, you say? That’s why I like to keep a small basket that acts like a catch-all for everything! Chargers? Cables? Keys? Put them in the basket! And then the rest, keep them small and coordinated.
2. Fresh Flowers or Plants
For flowers, you don’t have to put a whole bouquet in there. Keep it simple. Even a small recycled candle jar or vase with 1 to 3 flowers will add just the right amount of pretty on your nightstand. Maybe a small succulent would be better if you have enough natural light coming in. Since I don’t, I just use a few flowering twigs and some eucalyptus leaves – which is pretty much trending right now. They are minimalist but at the same time, only $2.99 a bunch at most groceries like Trader Joe’s. And you can divide them throughout your house without spending a fortune each time. Oh, and a bonus, they last longer and repel insects – I hate fruit flies in the warmer months! They are annoying! Okay, moving on.
3. Switch Up Your Sheets
I had some long faux fur throws and thicker comforters during winter time. So now, it’s time to transition to lighter fabrics, specifically quilts. I like quilt sets for warmer months because they instantly beautify your bed. AND making the bed is so much easier because they are super easy to spread out! They even hide wrinkled fitted sheets. Because who has the time to perfectly flatten out their sheets every morning? I know I don’t always have the time. SHHHHH! But who would know when your quilt hides everything and makes the whole bed look pristine and well made.
Now if there are transitional clothing, I’d say this faux fur quilt sheet is the equivalent when it comes to bedding. From a far, it looks like most quilted sheets. But up close, and when you touch it, it’s actually a lighter faux fur type of quilt! It’s super soft, comfy, and cozy. But at the same time, it’s light and the faux fur is low profile – making it great for that in-between winter and spring weather! Our dog, Louis, couldn’t be happier. Let me tell you, the first time I had this in our bed, Louis can’t be bothered from his sleep. He slept longer than usual. AND he didn’t bother going to the other room where he used to nap next to a window. He just pretty much stayed in our bed and enjoyed the soft quilt so much!
And aside from the softness, just look at how pretty this quilt sheet is!
For the fitted sheet set, I opted for a blush color – it’s the Rose Mist. But it’s not the kind of blush pink that guys might not like. It was very subtle, yet perfect for Spring! This is a flannel sheet, by the way, which makes it perfect for winter to spring season too. It gives that added warmth compared to cotton sheets that can feel cold during this transitional weather!
4. Add a New Accent Pillow to Freshen Up Your Bed
Sometimes, it’s the little things. Maybe all you need to freshen up your bedroom is a good cleaning and decluttering. Switch up the sheets and drapes to lighter ones. And then just add in a new accent pillow to freshen up the whole space!
I added in the cutest pink velvet bolster pillow, also from Soft Surroundings. It comes in mint and green too! Debated on whether to do pink or mint. But I’ve been doing that mint and/or turquoise accent colors every now and then. So I wanted to do something different. I hardly use pink for home decor because I don’t want it to be too girly. But I think this bolster pillow is just a nice little touch of elegant pink!
And then finally, I used our old Mr. & Mrs. accent pillow to top everything off!
Hope you enjoyed reading some spring refresh tips and liked our master bedroom reveal too. I know it’s not a lot. But I enjoyed decorating the small space and sharing it with you!
The next time you’ll see this master bedroom again is when I have some wall art and *maybe* a wall TV in front of the bed. We’ll see. I’m currently working on the “man cave” since it’s my gift to my husband for his birthday the other day. But I’m a little exhausted. So I might take a break from renos and makeovers for awhile… especially since vacation season is coming up! Don’t worry though because I still have a couple of room reveals to share with you. In case you missed the previous ones, check my closet/office here, the bathroom here, kitchen nook here, and the half-kitchen reveal here. Xo.
Full Disclosure: Thanks to Soft Surroundings for making our master bedroom spring ready by sending me the products featured here. But as always, all opinions are mine alone.
