Today at STYLEanthropy, I wanted to share with you this print on print summer outfit that I #FoundAtSimon a few weeks ago. To give you a refresher, I went to the Grove City Premium Outlets in Pennsylvania and was provided a gift card to shop for some summer looks. I first found a pool side look that I featured here. So for my second look, I went with some print mixing, summer edition!
Of course, Louis wanted in too. “Mom, is this how you pose? Look at my leg!” – @Louis_the_Beagle
Print on Print Summer Outfit
I take pride in my print mixing skills, can you tell? Hehe. You can say I’m an eclectic dresser. But all I can say is that I like to have fun with fashion. I can wear different styles depending on my mood. I can be preppy, girly, boho, boyish, goth and so much more – all depends on what I want to be that day. That’s the beauty of fashion and style. You can try different trends, take risks, and put your own spin. For this summer outfit, I wanted to mix two totally different prints.
When I found these at the J. Crew Factory store at the Premium Outlets, I instantly knew I wanted to pair them together. I hesitated for a bit, just looking at the two pieces on my hand. One was a linen leaf print, and the other was a lime green and white polka dot preppy pair of shorts. But when I tried them on inside the fitting room, I was convinced. I can almost hear Tim Gunn saying, “Make it work”! Yes, Tim, making it work!
The key to print mixing is finding one or two similar colors or shades in both pieces. No matter how opposite or opposing their prints are, when you find a neutral ground, you CAN make it work! With both prints having white, and both pieces are light and breezy (perfect summer features), I knew they would complement each other.
My blue polka dot hat is another clashing print. But it takes the polka dot print from my shorts and the blues on my linen blouse. So I say, yes, it’s working, alright!
Finally, a white and blue striped tote was another print that I added into the mix. With the blue and white (off white/creamy canvas), again, it tied nicely to this summer outfit.
