Hey guys! Finally, I’m ending my 3-part series of our Virginia Travel. You can check part 1 here or part 2 here, in case you missed it. Now, I’m talking about where we stayed – Norfolk! As mentioned in previous posts, we decided the last minute and ran out of rooms in Virginia Beach. No problem though because Norfolk is just 10-15 minutes away from Virginia Beach. So below, check out our Norfolk Travel Diary!

Where We Stayed
We stayed at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside which has an amazing view of the Elizabeth River that connects to the ocean. We love staying at the Sheraton because as an SPG member (and it’s free to join, btw), you get access to member benefits like free nights, club lounge privileges (when available), complimentary in-room internet access, room upgrades and more. Whenever we book, we always choose the one with free hor d’oeuvres in the evening with club lounge access. That way, when you arrive, you can enjoy light bites and drinks to fill you up before heading out. We also love the access to free drinks and snacks throughout the whole stay. So it’s one less thing to bring/carry when we’re on a trip. It’s such a hassle when you realize you didn’t bring enough water and you have to find a convenience store late at night or early in the morning. The previous Sheraton hotels we have stayed at have Starbucks coffee machines, unlimited water, sodas, teas, juices, and fruits or cookies.

Now, the only problem when we stayed at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside during our trip in May, the Club Lounge was undergoing renovation! Bummer! In fact, the whole hotel was undergoing renovation and the restaurant was in a temporary location too. Good thing the breakfast was delicious – complete with custom omelettes made to your liking and with your toppings/fillings of choice.
Oh, and thank goodness the pool was open as well. But to be honest, water was pretty cold most of the day.
What I Wore
Aloha word wrap c/o Virginia Wolf NYC; Cult Gaia wooden ark bag; Forever 21 patches; Tassel drop earrings; VS Pink slides; embroidered denim shorts (my favorite on repeat this summer and is only $24.99 on sale); smartwatch c/o Fossil.
My fave Quay sunglasses in marble frame with blue mirrored lenses are from last year and have since sold out. But, I found you a similar pair without the blue lens here. BUT BEST OF ALL, it’s only $14 and comes with free shipping and returns. You’re welcome.
Now, let’s talk about my pretty floral pink off shoulder top for a minute. As you can see, I wore it over my swimsuit poolside during the morning. And then when we went around the hotel, I wore my white denim jeans (under $50) with it along with my favorite and super comfortable stripe bow slides.
And before we left to have dinner at Waterman’s, I switched to my fave wedges for a dressier look, perfect for a beach date night. So, my point it, how freakin’ flexible is this top? AND if you’re not convinced to get one for your next vacation, let me tell you how much it actually is – $19.99 and also comes in a blue version. AND you get an extra 30% off with code 24FORYOU until July 16, 2017 only. HURRY because they are selling out!
Another look, another day…
Waterside Bars and Restaurants
Now, let’s get back to the places to visit. We’re lucky that when you go down the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside and walk to the back of the hotel, you’ll see a thriving bar-resto scene, the Waterside District! It just opened this year and definitely packs a crowd. You can find the best of national, regional, and local restos, nightlife and fun for all ages, all with a waterfront view!
Guy Fieri’s Smokehouse
Hip Cafe and Poke Place: Zeke’s Beans and Bowls
Obviously, I absolutely have to have coffee wherever I go and Norfolk is no exception. I found this cool place from Instagram, Zeke’s, and I knew I had to go there! Why? Intelligentsia Coffee and eclectic artsy vibe…
And obviously, we had to go because Louis is welcomed there! We would have stayed at the back patio but the cats were there and that could be a riot! Hah!
Art Scene: Wall Murals and Sculptures
Walking downtown, just next to where Zeke’s is located, you’ll come across wall murals and art sculptures. It’s an Instagram-addict haven for sure!
Even benches are clad in art!
The Cementiscope is so much fun. Basically, if you stand up on the other end (where there is a step), and your friend looks at the other end, your face will appear in like a kaleidoscope view. I have a video and will post it up on social media or add it to this post later.
I SUPER LOVE this well which is actually a gun shop. However, it was closed and the gate to go inside this parking lot is closed to! Would have been a nice photo wall backdrop, huh? There were so many wall murals scattered downtown and would have taken all the photos if we had more time!
So, did we love Norfolk? Umm, the answer is…
Now, other places to visit in Norfolk: Nauticus, The Main (Hilton) for fine dining, Norfolk Botanical Garden, MacArthur Shopping Center for some shopping, Glass Wheel Studio, and many more. Make sure to check out www.visitnorfolk.com (not sponsored, hehe) for more travel info!
