Hey guys! For today’s Hump Day House Update, I’m sharing our foyer. Are you ready for our entryway reveal? We didn’t do much here except some decor, hooks, and the door knobs. But I wanted you to see the before and after. If you’re new here, hello! My husband and I bought this house last December. I haven’t done a full reveal of the house yet since we’re doing updates one by one. But you can see the kitchen nook here, half kitchen reveal here, bathroom reno/reveal here, my cloffice (closet/office), and then our master bedroom here. I think we’re about half-way through. We’re taking it slowly because we’re doing the updates ourselves and we’re also sticking to a budget (especially since we have to replace the kitchen appliances). So when you’re ready, let’s check out our entryway!
Above is the listing photo on the left and on the right is what it looks like now. Note, we didn’t stain the wood floor. The color difference is just because of the lighting. The before has no lights on while the after pic has all of the lights turned on!
When you enter our home, this view above will be on your left side. You all know this trusty Ikea shelf. I have two of those sizes to store all sorts of stuff back when we were living in an apartment. Now that everything has its place, this shelf has no purpose. And since we don’t have an “adult” entry console table of sorts, I thought of placing this here temporarily. Here are some of the entryway tables I’m looking at.
I dressed up the cube shelf with these baskets and a gold tray and faux fiddle leaf fig plant c/o Macy’s Backstage. Have you shopped there? If you haven’t, why not? Come on! I’ve been telling you to go! There are so many great deals that you can find there. And the one I went to – at Monroeville, PA – has so many great home decor pieces with amazing prices. It’s also where I found this cute rug! It’s got that global aesthetic but can also work with that farmhouse vibe! Best of all, it was like $20!
What We Added or Changed
Not counting the decor or furniture, here are some of the things that we added or changed in this small space.
As you can see above, I added some hooks for guests to hang their coats on. But there’s also a coat closet nearby if we’re having a big group over. Now perhaps the only thing we really changed here were the door knobs. I wanted black ones to match the black door knobs we installed throughout the house. I should have taken a photo of the outside because it’s pretty from there. I couldn’t find a black mailbox at our local hardware/home store but the hubs found one online.
And finally, I had the hubby hang this full mirror here where the previous owner had hers. But instead of lowering the mirror, I had him line it up to the top of the main door. You’ll see in the following photo, but when you’re on the steps across it, it’s just the right height to see your outfit before you head out the door!
The light fixture above came with the house. I have been meaning to replace it but just couldn’t decide what style to get. I already got some globe ones for our kitchen and the sputnik for our dining room. This one, I couldn’t just decide on yet. Any suggestions?
By the way, in case you were wondering about that folding door on the right (above), that leads to the kitchen. I don’t like having a door directly in front of the main door because for one, it’s bad luck in Feng Shui. But if we leave this hallway door open, the oven is lined up to the main door – again, bad luck in Feng Shui. And it’s just weird that the first thing you see when you get in the house is the oven, right? So we’re keeping it closed and I placed a crystal hanging on top of that door. Not that I follow Feng Shui closely, because after all, I believe you make your own success in life! But these are just small precautions that I don’t mind factoring in when decorating our home.
That’s it for today. I hope you enjoyed checking this post out. I’m currently working on the basement – that’s what’s keeping me busy these days. I’m just waiting for the wall art to arrive so I can finally share with you the reveal! It’s one of my favorites yet! Until next. Xo.
