Today at STYLEanthropy, I’m sharing my experience driving the Genesis G80 around Pittsburgh. And since it’s time for my three favorite things Thursday, I thought I’d share my 3 favorite spots in the city as well. Obviously, there are more places in Pittsburgh that I love to frequent. But for today, let me share with you these three first.
Driving Around Pittsburgh in the Genesis G80
I had the opportunity to drive the Genesis G80 around Pittsburgh. Genesis’ luxury sedan surprised me with it’s smooth ride, amazing high-tech features, comfort, and the sleek design. From the outside, no doubt this is a luxury vehicle. From the moment you get close to the car, open the door, start the engine, and drive this baby, you’ll see all the extras that Genesis put into it. So I was pretty excited to drive it in the city, taking it with me to all of my fave spots (in no particular order). So read along to see where I drove the G80 and I’ll be showing some of my favorite features along the way.
Fave Spot #1 The Block Northway
The first place that came to mind when thinking of where to drive the G80 was The Block Northway. This redeveloped shopping area along McKnight Road has some of my favorite shops like The Container Store, Saks Off Fifth, J. Crew Mercantile, and Nordstrom Rack to name a few. And while shopping there, I like to stop by the Core Life Eatery for healthy eats and delicious juices like the beet lemonade I’m drinking below. Oh, and in case you haven’t heard, Wahlburgers (founded by actors Donnie and Mark Wahlberg, and their Chef brother, Paul) is opening here soon!
And if those shops aren’t enough, The Block is just minutes away from Ross Park Mall where you can shop Free People, Louis Vuitton, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Lululemon, Tory Burch, and Sephora among other brands. And don’t you worry about your shopping bags when driving the Genesis G80. This car was built for that! Case in point, see the very spacious trunk! It’s actually a smart trunk because it opens up for you when you stand behind it with the key on you (or in your pocket or bag) for more than three seconds. So if your hands are full, no worries. Let the smart trunk open up for you.
For reference: the husband picked me up at the airport in the G80. My luggage (2 large ones) fit perfectly with lots of room to spare as seen in the photo below. Even my carry-on bag is there. And yet, I could probably fit 2 more medium or large suitcases with a few more totes on either side! Even the inside is spacious. I picked up some packages at the office the other day and just threw them on the floor. Look at how spacious the leg room is!
Fave Spot #2 The Waterfront
I currently live pretty close to The Waterfront. So when I feel like working at a coffee shop, or have time to spare (or need time to unwind and take a break from a busy day), I go over to The Waterfront. Aside from getting coffee, there are a couple of restaurants, bars, quick bites, and shops like Gap, Loft, Express, Victoria’s Secret, and Macy’s to name a few. There’s also AMC theaters, Improv, Dave and Buster’s, Paint Monkey, and SingSing Dueling Piano bar for entertainment. I’m usually there later in the afternoon ’til evening. So it was a perfect spot to take photos of the G80 at night.
I just had to show you this – see that Genesis logo with the light on the floor? How cool is that? It lights up when you unlock the car with the proximity key.
Holy cow, batman, is that you? Nope, it’s the Genesis logo! And I love this extra feature because when you’re out at night and find yourself at a dark parking lot, this will help you find your way and see where you’re walking.
Obviously, I had to take a photo of the G80 right outside the famous Primanti Bros. – gimme that Almost Famous sandwich!
Another feature that I like is the full color heads-up display. You can see your speed and other vehicle information like navigation/direction in the windshield directly in front of the driver. See below. I like that I don’t have to look down to check my speed or if there’s a car in the corner, or look to the center navigation for directions.
Fave Spot #3 Market Square
Another Pittsburgh spot I like to frequent is Market Square. Conveniently located downtown and walking distance to the Golden Triangle/Point State Park, it’s filled with restaurants and cafes. During the holidays, the center of the square is filled with holiday decor and street vendors selling all kinds of festive things!
When we go here to eat, we always park on the street parking. So it’s nice to have some kind of shade for the car. The Genesis G80 has built-in window shades in the back and an automatic rear windshield shade. It’s automatic because it goes all the way down when you reverse. And then it rises up again after you’re done backing up the car. You’ll see it in action in the video below.
By the way, the Genesis G80 is equipped with the Lexicon Premium Audio System with Quantum Logic Surround and Clari-Fi. Enjoy 17 high-performance speakers and lush surround sound. The Clari-Fi™ Music Restoration Technology helps restore sound quality lost with digitally compressed music.
Overall, I had an amazing experience driving around the Genesis G80. It’s got a lot of other impressive features like being able to switch from Eco mode to Sport mode, ultra comfortable seats which was super customizable, and it also boasts a ton of safety features including:
- Lane Keep Assist
- Smart Cruise Control with Start/Stop
- Blind Spot Detection
- Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
- High Beam Assist
- Driver Attention Alert
