The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are here and you can get one now at Verizon! If you’re up for an upgrade, you’re probably thinking whether or not to upgrade to the latest flagship smartphone from Samsung. So below, I’m sharing 6 reasons why you’ll want to get the latest Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9+.
6 Reasons to Upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9+
1. Better Camera + Dual Camera on S9+
The best improvement on the Samsung Galaxy phones would be the camera. Both of the S9 and the S9+ feature a front-facing camera with 8-megapixels and f/1.7 aperture lens. The back has 12 megapixels and adjustable aperture from f/1.5 to f/2.4. But if you want the better phone, get the S9+ with a telephoto lens of a fixed 2.3 aperture which allows better shots for low-light situations. Below is a photo taken with the Samsung Galaxy S9.
2. Better Video Quality in Low Light
One of the things I didn’t like in the Samsung S8/S8+ was shooting video in low-light. I was able to compare it with the iPhone X, shooting inside a room with minimal light (early morning light coming in from the window, with curtains closed). The Samsung S8/S8+ tried to brighten the video but in turn, making it so grainy. The iPhone X video was darker but sharp. Now, Samsung improved on this. I just tested out the video in the same low light conditions and the quality is way better. It’s not as grainy and comparable to low light videos I shot with the iPhone X.
Here’s a side-by-side comparison of S9 and S8+.
3. Slo-Motion Video
While competition has the slo-mo feature for awhile, Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ supports 960 frames-per-second super slow-motion recording. It allows 1/120 second-snapshots and supports HDR, noise reduction, and prevents jello effect and image distortion. The feature is quite impressive, catching motion in the box area of the frame (that you set), allowing for really cool videos. See samples of slo-motion videos below.

4. AR emoji
This is a fun new feature exclusive to the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+, the AR emoji. You can create emojis with your selfies that you take. Currently, there are 14 pre-determined poses with your emoji. I gotta admit, when I got the Galaxy S9, this was actually the first thing that I tried. Haha! Even better, you can send your emoji avatar to friends! There are other characters that you can use in the camera app too, like Micky and Minnie Mouse, among a few. Below is one of my AR emojis. And I can really see myself in it – the brows and eye part. Haha!
5. Latest Processor – Qualcomm Snapdragon 845
The Galaxy S9 utilizes the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 which is the latest processor version. While S9 has 4GB RAM, the S9+ has 6GB RAM, making the phone way faster than the previous Galaxy phones. Both of these phones support Gigabit LTE which means peak download speeds of up to 1.2 gigabits per second.
6. Better Sound
Try streaming a video or playing music on the new Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9+ and you will be impressed. You can get closer to your music with clearer and louder audio from speakers pro-tuned by AKG³ and hear from all directions with Dolby Atmos surround sound.
While there are more improved features of the S9 phones, including the repositioned fingerprint scanner on the back, these top 6 are some of my favorites. To learn more features and order the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+, make sure to check out Verizon.
